Greater London Authority (GLA), London’s devolved regional governance body, is now recruiting its next cohort of level 3 business administration apprentices, who will be supported in their training by Seetec Outsource.
With powers over transport, policing, economic development, and fire and emergency planning, the GLA offers apprentices an exciting opportunity to learn about the workings of regional Government while building valuable skills in business administration and contributing to the future of London.
Reflecting on their experiences of the apprenticeship during a particularly challenging year, four of GLA’s current apprentices have written a blog to give prospective applicants an insight into the programme, the support they have received and what they have gained from the apprenticeship so far:
“We joined the GLA in March 2020 for 13-month-long placements within various teams. Our welcome day was fantastic, with a photo shoot and a full tour of City Hall which was everything we imagined it would be. We also met our line managers and teams, and left fully prepared to come back and take our physical places within the GLA family.
“Unfortunately the lockdown began the following day, placing us in an unexpected and potentially difficult situation. However, with the support of our colleagues (and Microsoft Teams) we have managed to settle in, albeit virtually!
“We have acclimatised to our various teams by creating personal routines to help us stay focused and motivated while working from home. We have been joining meetings, taking minutes and helping where we can. Some of us have even had the opportunity to chair meetings and work with Assistant Directors. And alongside this we have been studying Business Administration through online workshops and training courses, as part of the apprenticeship scheme.
“Despite the social distancing measures, we have all received a warm welcome from our teams, as well as from the GLA overall, which has been very supportive and accommodating throughout.
“While working remotely the Learning and Organisational Development Team (L&OD) and our line managers have been very creative in helping us to adjust and find our feet without their physical presence. In particular we would like to thank Joyceline Hogan from the L&OD Team, who has been very supportive of us beyond her role. Joyceline has been crucial in helping us all to navigate and settle into the GLA, and in helping to maintain our morale during this very challenging time.
“Finally, we extend our thanks to the Mayor and Human Resources Team who have put in place extra support to enable us to keep our posts and work from home.
“As apprentices, we each look forward to growing and progressing within the Greater London Authority, and we are all excited to have been chosen to contribute to its important work.”
