Patrick, 17, from Speke has secured a full-time apprenticeship position with his work placement employer after successfully completing a 12-week warehousing and storage traineeship with Seetec Outsource.

Having left school the previous year, Patrick had struggled to find a job and was unsure about his next steps. His Career Connect coach signposted him to the warehousing and storage traineeship, which was an opportunity for Patrick to explore different career options and build important employability skills.

Patrick fully embraced the 12-week programme, and his determination was evident from day one. He enjoyed learning about logistics operations, and also had the opportunity to gain a forklift truck licence ahead of his work placement with Merseyside-based discount retailer Just A Bargain.

During his work placement, Patrick was able to put the knowledge and skills he’d gained to good use, and quickly became a real asset to the team. His manager, Shaun Newell, said:

“We were really impressed by Patrick’s enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in. He learned the ropes very quickly and was polite, friendly and hard-working. It was a real pleasure to have him here.”

Patrick impressed his employer so much, that he was offered a full-time position and an opportunity to progress onto the level 2 supply chain warehouse operative apprenticeship programme with Seetec Outsource, which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

He said: “I’m incredibly grateful to my Career Connect coach for giving me the nudge I needed to join the traineeship programme. It has opened up so many opportunities and led to a job that I really enjoy. I’m excited about starting my journey as a full-time member of staff here, and would recommend the traineeship to anyone who needs a bit of help finding their feet in the job market.”

Kerry Traill, Employer Engagement Executive at Seetec Outsource, explained: “Our traineeships are built on strong partnerships with local employers like Just A Bargain, who are committed to providing opportunities for young people and have been able to offer a number of work placements across different areas of the business.

“We knew that they wanted to recruit someone into their warehouse – it was just a case of finding the right person. Having spent time getting to know Patrick on programme, it was clear that he would be a great match, and it’s fantastic to see him progressing within the company.

“Traineeships don’t just support young people to build their skills and confidence in the workplace – they also give employers an opportunity to discover untapped potential and recruit the right people to fill their roles. It’s definitely a win-win!”
