Programme overview:

If you have an inquiring mind, a lively interest in current affairs and an ability to use words accurately and with effect, this programme will pave the way for a successful career in journalism.

With an understanding of the diversity of your audience and the ability to work with persistence and determination, you’ll develop the skills and competencies needed to produce news and information for TV, radio, print and digital publications.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Understanding what a story is and carrying out the necessary research and interviews
  • Creating quality stories that are accurate, clear, vigorous, fair and balanced, in a form that will engage an audience
  • Building and maintaining a range of reliable contacts
  • Working in an ethical manner and in accordance with relevant codes of conduct
  • Writing and using good English to industry standard for all platforms
  • Additional specialist skills for print, TV/radio or PR/corporate communications and associated digital platforms

Qualifications and certification:

National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Level 3 Diploma in Journalism
