Seetec Outsource recently combined two of its current adult learning initiatives in a fulfilling enrichment day with Real Ideas, a Plymouth-based organisation committed to making a positive social impact through creative and innovative activities.

Clifford Beaumont, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutor, explained how the idea first arose: “Whilst attending the Jobs fair here at our Plymouth Office some of our group were interested in attending an ‘Introduction to Printing’ course. I had a chat to their Communities Navigator, Sarah Carroll, and so I invited her to come along and speak to my morning ESOL class. It was decided that, as the whole class wanted to attend, this would make a fantastic enrichment day and an opportunity to integrate it in with our ESOL course here at Seetec.”

The ‘Introduction to Printing’ course that was offered by Real Ideas is one of many within the Multiply initiative: a series of free, short courses that use innovative and engaging methods to help individuals improve their number skills and gain confidence. This one-day course looked at exploring screen printing and printmaking techniques such as learning how to use print equipment and designing and producing your own prints.

Clifford described how much the class had enjoyed their day: “Upon their return the class spoke very excitedly about the day and really enjoyed the whole experience. This is a great example of working with other initiatives within the city to help our ESOL Learner integrate with the local community.”
